Task 3 - choices choices.......

Idea 1 - Monster Fun Fact Book for Children/Young Teenagers (6-13)

During the summer I created a series of images that were based on Favourite  on mythological creatures. After posting a few online they were received very well by other people, and I decided that as a final idea I could create a fun fact book for children on Monsters. After researching Moshi Monsters, I've realised that at the moment monsters and other peculiar creatures are quite popular with young kids, and I feel that with my "weird" and "whacky" style of work and characters I feel this is the strongest idea that I have come up with, and the idea that can go along way.

Along with the book I was thinking of creating maybe some extra bits and pieces to go with the book, extra bits such as badges, bookmarks etc, just so I can showcase that theres more to this idea then just a book.

Idea 2 -  Macmillan Prize

I was thinking of entering the Macmillan Prize. I entered this competition last year, but didn't feel that my entry was that strong, and now with some better experience at page layouts and a better understanding on what kids want or like in a book story, I think entering this again would be a good idea, esp this time I'll get feedback from tutors and other students alike.

Entering this competition would also give me some worth while experience in creating a book towards a specific brief, bleed, layout commission etc.

Idea 3 - Continuation of Horde Of Hamsters Project

Another idea is to continue on with the "Horde Of Hamsters" project that I did during the first term of this year, after creating the characters and receiving feedback from the presentation I know which direction I can go now to improve the characters. The potential for the progression of this project is to create a story book for children aged around 8-12 . I feel that there's quite enough strength there in the characters to create a story. As you can see with the majority of these idea's, creating a book will be high on my agenda as its the area I can see my work being used in and its an area I feel quite passionate about, and it's where a lot of my inspiration comes from.

Idea 4 - Pylon Press Monster Booklet

Another idea I had which is basically the same as the monster book but instead of creating a fun fact book, I was thinking more along the lines of creating a Pylon Press booklet, that was solely a book with pictures in of the monsters. 

This could be used as a combination with the coloured in version of the actual book. Like an add-on which will feature more characters, or show-casing the characters in their environment. 

Idea 5 - Cheltenham Illustrations Awards 

"Your entry to this year's Cheltenham Illustration Awards should be a personal visual response initiated by this arguably the best-known, best-loved and first Modernist piece of British classical music. Holst imbued each planet with characteristics which were representative of the human life cycle, from youth to old age, beginning with Mars, energetic and bombastic, ending with esoteric Neptune, alone, facing the mystical unknown.

We wish you to also apply the theme of 'Memory' (the theme to the Times Cheltenham Literature Festival 2013) to your response and avoid the obvious interpretations of Roman Gods, astrology etc.  Instead, as this is a competition focusing on narrative illustration, your entry may be drawn from your own memory, experience or your own invented fictional response."

Entering this competition would be a good experience to enter a renowned competition such as the Cheltenham awards. Also entering this competition would  put me out of my comfort zone which I have done a few times over the year entering various competitions, leaving my comfort zone is something that I think is quite essential especially when you need to change your style to fit into the ever changing art fashion. 

Idea 6 - T-Shirt design - Creature Menagerie 
T-shirt printing has been an interest thats always intrigued me, especially now I know how the whole process works and what you have to do to create a T-shirt print. The idea behind the T-shirt designs would be to create a series of humorous pictures and scenes of crazy animals, (As you can see this idea is inspired by the Weird Fish t-shirt designs, mainly thanks to its humorous imagery and character expression.)
T-shirt printing now is a big market, esp in this day and age, there are a lot of independent t-shirt print designers now, and there is a massive market now for this design media. The advantage of T-shirt prints as well is "Advertising." People walking around with your design on them is advertising your work to other people, which is a bonus on itself.
